Afternoon Tea Week!
8th August 2014
Afternoon Tea Week starts on Monday, and here at Laura’s Beau, we are very excited for a whole week of scones and tea- all in the name of celebrating, it would be rude not to!
Afternoon Tea is a quintessentially British past time, Charles II of England’s wife, Catherine of Braganza, is often credited with introducing tea to the court in 1662 upon her arrival. It was Anna Maria Russell, Duchess of Bedford, however who is credited with transforming afternoon tea during a visit to Belvoir Castle.
Traditionally, for laborers, afternoon tea usually consisted of a small sandwich and a scone packed for them in the morning. For the high classes, afternoon tea was luxury sandwiches- cucumber, egg and cress, fish paste, ham and smoked salmon) scones with clotted cream and jam, and cakes and pastries such as Victoria sponge.
If you are going to join in the celebrations for the week, or just fancy a sandwich and cake, we have a wonderful range of tablecloths which would finish off your tea party beautifully, please look at our entire range here.
