25th September 2015

The lovely Church in Kelmscott has been unaltered since the middle of the 16th century.

This is the church which William Morris visited during his summers at Kelmscott Manor.

Morris and his family are buried in the church yard.

Morris had a love of ancient buildings and fought to preserve them, forming the Society For The Protection Of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) in 1877 with other members of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood.

In the North Chapel the walls are decorated with wall paintings in red ochre with scenes from the Old and New Testaments which date from about 1280.
