A New Year’s Break In Paris

7th January 2016

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you have a very happy 2016!

This year, our New Year’s break was spent frolicking around Paris, which was rather nice indeed. I thought I’d share some photos with you in a state of post-holiday blues.

We found this little street up a hill from the Eiffel Tower, these apartments overlook the Eiffel Tower itself- what a beautiful view!

The Arc de Triomphe was just up from the apartment we stayed at, it honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars. The names of the French victories and generals are inscribed on the surfaces, beneath the arch lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I. The coffin was laid to rest on January 28th 1921. The inscription on the top reads ‘ICI REPOSE UN SOLDAT FRANÇAIS MORT POUR LA PATRIE 1914-1918’ which translates to ‘Here lies a French soldier who died for the fatherland 1914-1918.’

The Le mur des je t’aime (translated: The wall of love) can be found in Montmartre, the word ‘love’ is written 311 times in 250 languages, and is a beautiful piece of art that you can visit for free- seems fitting for this to be featured in the city of love!

I’ve written previously about my Hearts & Kisses range, which was inspired by a trip to Paris. Laura’s Beau own a beautiful French archive of designs from late 1800- early 1900, and the trailing lattice design, I felt, was very reminiscent of the raw iron design of the Eiffel tower. The heart design which is featured on the lining of the iPad bags, and on the trimmings of the apron, symbolise the city of love, I mentioned above the love wall, there is the Pont des Arts near the Notre Dame Cathedral, and so I thought it fitting to also choose this design for the accents of my products. It was nice to be able to take my products back to where they began so I hope you love the photos as much as I do!

If you enjoy seeing our travels and what we get up to when we’re not busy producing new ranges of French Floral and William Morris products, be sure to follow our social media accounts!
