How are we making sure we’re responsible with our impact on the environment?

Printing responsibly in the UK since 1994

Being transparent with you about our impact on the environment is important to us. Being as environmentally friendly as possible is something we’re always striving to achieve, through our printing, manufacturing and packaging.

Since 1994, we’ve been printing our fabric and manufacturing our products in the United Kingdom. Our 100% cotton is purchased from Pakistani cotton mills. These mills are externally inspected and accredited, they’re long established and famous for both their processes and quality.

Natural fabric, it’s not contributing to “throw away” culture. This is because the 100% cotton is high quality, it has a longevity and quality that lower quality fabrics don’t have. On today’s market, there’s lots of poly cotton mixes which contain oil based plastic which is inferior. This is because it sheds fibres upon washing – that goes into our water systems which is of course, damaging. It also won’t last as long in terms of its quality and since it contains oil and mixes of polyester fibres, it’s not super friendly to the environment.

We do think you should be aware of where your products are created, so be sure to read how cotton is grown and produced. Pakistan is one of the leading cotton-growing countries.

Manufactured in the United Kingdom

All our products are manufactured in the United Kingdom, created by highly skilled, full time UK machinists. They have the benefits of good wages, pensions and holiday pay. This is and always will be, very important to us to make sure our supply chain is ethical.

When shopping online or in store, it’s easy to be removed from the manufacturing process, but when we see environmental scandals, then it brings home to everyone that there is a massive need to not be aware and responsible. It’s important to ask questions, to be curious and to check out the processes companies have in place which is why we’re always aiming to be transparent!

Recycle Us

The next thing to look at is our packaging. It’s actually where you can help us. If you place an order with us, we need you to recycle our packaging! We’re always trying to improve and, of course, we’re not completely perfect. But we’re trying our absolute best with it and we are making conscious choices to make improvements.

For our fabric, we package it in paper bags and our postage bags are all recyclable, so please remember to put them in the recycling bin, or repurpose them if you’re sending returns to us or another company!

If you’ve got any questions, please feel free to get in touch. We’re a work in progress, but please feel free to send us your thoughts if you have an idea on how we can get better. We’re striving to make good changes where we can.

🍓 William Morris Month Day 14 🍓 Strawberry Thief was inspired by William Morris’s watching the thrushes under the strawberry nets at the stunning @kelmscottmanor 🌿 May Morris conjured up this scene when speaking of the design, “You can imagine my Father going out in the early morning and watching the rascally thrushes at work on the fruit beds and telling the fanned who growls ‘I’d like to wring their necks!’ that no bird in the garden must be touched. There were certainly more birds than strawberries in spite of attempts at protection. And the walls of the little dining-room are hung with this note of the June garden and the little lords of it.” 🍓 What a lovely insight into the Morris family life! 🥰

✨ William Morris Month Day 11 ✨ A spotlight on Willow Bough today! 🌿 This beautiful botanical design was first designed in 1887, isn’t it so timeless! It actually was the design his daughter May Morris used to decorate her bedroom before it was adapted for wallpaper in 1895 when it was block printed in Merton Abbey 🇬🇧

🌟 William Morris Month Day 6 🌟 Celebrating World Book Day by settling down with some of our favourite William Morris books! 📚 Did you know that when Morris died, his physician was quoted on the cause of death as, “simply being William Morris and having done more work than most ten men”. When reading through at his life, it’s incredible to see how much he did achieve in his 62 years; from his designs, his printing achievements at Merton Abbey, creating the Kelmscott Press, his poetry and writings and much more! ✨
