Nun Monkton is a picturesque village which is part of Harrogate. It is believed to have been a settlement prior to the Viking invasions and was certainly an important settlement from Norman times, due to the river. There was a priory there until the Reformation, and the Battle of Marston Moor (1644) took place nearby.
The village has a traditional, working, village green and a maypole
The Norman church (St Mary’s) has an important stained glass window by Edward Burne Jones and William Morris.
