Harrogate Stray

Pannal, where Laura’s Beau is based, is part of Harrogate.  Just over 2 miles up the road from Pannal village is the beautiful green Stray, an area which lies next to the most central part of Harrogate. It is wonderful to have 200 acres of green space in the centre of the  town.

It is a lovely sight and we have  to pass by part of the Stray on the way into Harrogate.  The Stray was created by an Act of Parliament in 1778,  when 200 acres of open common in Harrogate,  (which had been pastures for all and sundry from time immemorial), were designated  as the “200 Acre Stray” which:
“shall forever hereafter remain open and unenclosed and all persons whomsoever shall and may have free access at all times to the said springs, and be at liberty to use and drink the waters there arising… “
