‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful’ – William Morris

15th October 2017

We’ve been huge fans of William Morris for as long as we can remember; not only his designs of which it’s pretty clear we’re fans of, but also of his poetry, literature and his general attitude towards life – achieving a remarkable amount in his life due to his numerous passions and immeasurable talent.

It’s for this reason that we’ve decided to launch one of our new ranges as an ode to the man himself – whilst his designs are recognisable, we’ve mixed perhaps one of his most widely loved design with both his signature and one of his famous quotes, recognised all over the world…

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.’ – William Morris

It’s one of the quotes we believe to summarise his beliefs the most – so passionate he was about creating beautiful spaces in his home that when he bought Red House, and was unable to find home furnishings he liked, he was inspired to make his own. This fuelled the formation of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. which in turn led to his own company, Morris & Co. for which he produced most of his famous designs and flourished into creating his own style and abilities within the printing world.

Which item is your favourite? They all contain the photo and quote and Morris’ Trellis design surrounding this. Our tote bag also has his signature and elects of the Trellis design on the other side which we absolutely love!
