Hearts & Kisses

24th June 2018

You might have seen over on our Instagram that we’re loving using our Hearts & Kisses kitchen and dining room set this summer. A bright floral, it feels fresh on the table and the colours really seem to lift the room, especially when our plates are filled with vivid green salads (and the odd pot of guacamole or two!) There’s nothing we love more than changing up our interior decorating, from changing the seat cushions to re covering our existing furniture to create ‘new’ pieces and our curtains. But, there’s sometimes no need to swap out everything in the room; sometimes, all it takes is a simple change of dining room accessories – the tablecloth and napkins can be a simple way to change it all up and give new life to a room as the seasons change.

Of course, we’re still obsessed with our William Morris fabrics and kitchen/ dining room accessories, but our French floral designs from our late 1800 – early 1900 French archive also remain firm favourites. Exclusive designs to Laura’s Beau, you won’t see these designs anywhere else and they come from an original archive that we work with a skilled textile designer to restore to their former glory and these timelessly classic designs look as beautiful today as they did back in the early 1900s.

It was after a trip to Paris that we sat down for a new design meeting and decided we wanted to base a design on the French capital after being inspired by French minimalism and easy beauty and so out came the archive! Hearts & Kisses caught our attention immediately and we could see many elements within the design that we loved; the trellis design was reminiscent of the famous wrought iron of the Eiffel Tower and the hearts, of course because Paris is the city of love. The little ‘kisses’ within the design made the name an easy one for us to agree on and we all felt that everyone can always do with a little love in their lives – after all, the tablecloth sits upon the table that we all sit around as families and friends at the end or the beginning of the day to all bond and discuss our days – of course you need a beautiful setting for that whether that’s a kitchen or a dining room.

With such a pretty design, we couldn’t resist turning it into quite a few products – as with all our other products, the Hearts & Kisses range is printed and manufactured right here at home in the United Kingdom. So, we produced a 1950 style apron – because the sweetheart neckline and full skirt will never go out of fashion and forever be a cute and fun style. We also have an iPad mini/ Kindle case so all of your technology can be kept secure and safe with an inner padding in the case – and an external pocket so you can keep bits and bobs in here when you’re travelling – really handy for keeping your boarding pass and tickets in here! We also have a range of three sizes of tablecloths and, of course the matching napkins. We never think the table setting is complete without a matching napkin!

With 20% off the entire range right now – exclusively on our website – go and head over to look at the whole collection, and let us know which is your favourite Hearts & Kisses product!

It cannot be forgiven for blundering, as a picture may be which has otherwise great qualities in it. It is with a pattern as with a fortress, it is no stronger than its weakest point.”- William Morris 🤍

🌿 William Morris Day 20 🌿 William Morris fact of the day; did you know he founded the Kelmscott Press? 🖋️ He wrote of the venture – “Here is a new craft to conquer and to perfect.” Printing began at the press in Spring 1891 🪴 He designed multiple fonts including “Golden” Roman typeface and “Troy” Gothic type along with “Chaucer” and he worked to create beautiful books in regards to their designs which took into account their type, image and decorative elements – you can see beautiful examples of what he achieved today if you do a quick search on the Kelmscott Press- it’s well worth a Google! 🌷

🍓 William Morris Month Day 14 🍓 Strawberry Thief was inspired by William Morris’s watching the thrushes under the strawberry nets at the stunning @kelmscottmanor 🌿 May Morris conjured up this scene when speaking of the design, “You can imagine my Father going out in the early morning and watching the rascally thrushes at work on the fruit beds and telling the fanned who growls ‘I’d like to wring their necks!’ that no bird in the garden must be touched. There were certainly more birds than strawberries in spite of attempts at protection. And the walls of the little dining-room are hung with this note of the June garden and the little lords of it.” 🍓 What a lovely insight into the Morris family life! 🥰
