I wonder if you saw the programme on BBC4 last night entitled Heritage! The Battle for Britain’s Past (Episode 1). It was the first part in a three-part series and had a very interesting section about John Ruskin and William Morris. The programme highlighted William Morris’s role in the foundation of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. The episode will be repeated next Tuesday at 11 30 pm. It is also on BBC iplayer at the moment.
Last night there was also the first instalment of another three-part series about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (also available on BBC iplayer). They reached the point in the history of the PRB where John Ruskin’s intervention of a favourable critique of the work of the PRB counteracted the previously negative reception they had suffered from the press.
Pannal in the snow.
