John Pollard Seddon (1827-1906) trained under the architect Thomas Leverton Donaldson, who came from a prominent family of architects and was one of the co-founders of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Like William Morris, JP Seddon was very influenced by the ideas of John Ruskin and in 1852 he set up as an architect in London.
Pollard designed a hotel in Mid Glamorganshire and, as a result, he formed a partnership with John Prichard. Their partnership was very successful and they carried out a great deal of work in Wales, especially in church restoration, including of course, Llandaff Cathedral.
