Like so many of the members of the Arts & Crafts Movement in the Victorian Era, Selwyn Image attended Oxford University and was heavily influenced by John Ruskin and William Morris. Image took holy orders and was a clergyman for more than ten years although later he devoted himself to art and design. Image was an influential writer, poet, artist and designer who particularly known for his designs for stained glass.
With AH Mackmurdo, Selwyn Image was one of the founders of the Century Guild of Artists. Image was an editor of the Century Guild of Artists magazine The Hobby Horse from 1886 to 1892. Selwyn Image became Master of the Art Workers Guild in 1900.
