William Morris and Laura’s Beau Fabric Craft Projects

2nd September 2018

We love crafting ourselves, perhaps you’ve seen some of our past projects, but we also love to see the wonderful things you create using our fabric! Here are a few of the latest crafts sent in by our fabulous customers. We always love seeing your projects so remember to tag us on social media or send us an email!

Jane made this hand pleated cushion and lavender filled bags using our Lavender fabric. Our Lavender design is a stunning design which is original to Laura’s Beau and one that’s really meaningful to us as it reminds us of drives through the English countryside and seeing fields of English lavender. Bring the stunning English countryside into your home with this light design; how wonderful does it look in cushions and in a little bag to put in your draw or wardrobe to scent your wardrobe.

Jane made this wonderful lampshade using our William Morris Brother Rabbit fabric. Such a great way to add a design into a room, it really adds a pop of colour into a room doesn’t it.

David made these William Morris Red Strawberry Thief curtains using 12 metres of heavy cotton fabric. Don’t they look wonderful on his window; the design really does look wonderful on big or small projects…

From big windows to small… Rebecca made these Strawberry Thief red curtains for her vintage caravan. Taking a while to restore their caravan, the curtains are really a pop of colour and bring the whole project together! They caravan is lovely and wherever they pull up for the night in the English countryside, we’re sure it will be a lovely view to wake up to after drawing their beautiful William Morris curtains.

David made this wonderful bed spread from William Morris Brother Rabbit; he said of the project, “I lined the bedspread with a cotton sheet in navy blue and backed the pillowcase with the same fabric. For the bedspread I made the backing 10″ wider to give a better drop  each side and it looks good with the contrast fabric. I now want to make curtains to match!!!” It looks wonderful David, we’re so glad you’re happy with your fabric!

Barbara made all these fabulous cushions from our William Morris Willow Bough fabric. She sent us a lovely email to tell us about her project, “I have been making curtains out of your Willow Bough Blue fabric for my daughter’s new flat and have made some cushions out of the left over fabric. I thought you might like to see some photographs of the cushions I have made.” We love the bow detail and the bottom duck detail!

Angela made this stunning bag from our William Morris Brother Rabbit fabric and wrote us a message to tell us about her project, “I thought you might like to see what I made with some of my half metre of William Morris’s red ‘Brother Rabbit’ cotton fabric that I bought from you in the spring.  I sent this to my granddaughter for her 17th birthday this month..  I am glad to say that she was thrilled with it and has taken it shopping a few times already. Now I have to make another one for my eldest granddaughter, who has her birthday in September. This time I bought the Golden Lily design from you, which I got in the post today.  I think your fabrics are excellent in quality and value.” Thanks for your message Angela, we’d love to see your Golden Lily bag too!

If you’ve made anything using our fabulous fabrics, don’t forget to send us photos! By sending your photos to [email protected] and we will send you a 20% discount code off your next shop on our website!

🌿 William Morris Day 20 🌿 William Morris fact of the day; did you know he founded the Kelmscott Press? 🖋️ He wrote of the venture – “Here is a new craft to conquer and to perfect.” Printing began at the press in Spring 1891 🪴 He designed multiple fonts including “Golden” Roman typeface and “Troy” Gothic type along with “Chaucer” and he worked to create beautiful books in regards to their designs which took into account their type, image and decorative elements – you can see beautiful examples of what he achieved today if you do a quick search on the Kelmscott Press- it’s well worth a Google! 🌷

🍓 William Morris Month Day 14 🍓 Strawberry Thief was inspired by William Morris’s watching the thrushes under the strawberry nets at the stunning @kelmscottmanor 🌿 May Morris conjured up this scene when speaking of the design, “You can imagine my Father going out in the early morning and watching the rascally thrushes at work on the fruit beds and telling the fanned who growls ‘I’d like to wring their necks!’ that no bird in the garden must be touched. There were certainly more birds than strawberries in spite of attempts at protection. And the walls of the little dining-room are hung with this note of the June garden and the little lords of it.” 🍓 What a lovely insight into the Morris family life! 🥰

✨ William Morris Month Day 11 ✨ A spotlight on Willow Bough today! 🌿 This beautiful botanical design was first designed in 1887, isn’t it so timeless! It actually was the design his daughter May Morris used to decorate her bedroom before it was adapted for wallpaper in 1895 when it was block printed in Merton Abbey 🇬🇧
