William Morris Staircase

What a difference! Tracey used our fabric to make her staircase more of a feature in her cottage. From left to right you can see how much it’s brightened the space and made it so different to just your average staircase. From bottom to top the designs are all William Morris; Compton, Brother Rabbit Red, Blue Willow Bough, Sweet Briar, Red Brother Rabbit and Pimpernel Cream.

What a beautiful idea, the neutral grey wood on the top of the stairs really compliments every design.

Brother Rabbit Curtains

Laura sent these photos of her wonderful Brother Rabbit curtains. She wrote, “adore this pattern, love the quality of the fabric, it gets so many compliments from visitors. Looking forward to future projects with your beautiful fabrics!”

We spend so much time with the curtains closed, that we know how important it is that they look beautiful!

William Morris Trellis Purse

Catherine’s project was this stunning purse and bag project. She worked on these for her Mother for Mother’s Day – what a thoughtful gift that she created. We always think that the best gifts are those that are handmade, the extra effort means so much.

Compton Chair

Jane upcycled her chair using our William Morris Compton fabric. She wrote us a lovely email to go with the pictures, “I bought a round Golden Lily tablecloth and some quilted Pimpernel placemats from you last year and I was so pleased with them that I decided to order some Compton heavyweight cotton and try to make new cushions for a favourite little Parker Knoll chair with curvy arms that my aunt had bought in about 1950. It had very floppy feather cushions and rather perished Pirelli springs.
Well, here are the “before and after” photos of my attempt. It’s very comfortable now.  Not perfect, but my first sewing job since I stopped making clothes for my (now middle-aged) children.”
You did an amazing job Jane, we can’t wait to see more of your projects using our fabric!

Pimpernel and Brother Rabbit Tops

Maggie sent us these photos all the way from New Zealand. We’re always so excited as to how far our fabric and products travel around the world. She wrote to us, “a couple of months ago I purchased two pieces of William Morris fabrics from you and have sewed myself two beautiful tops. I get lots of compliments about the nice fabrics. I also bought a William Morris tea towel from you. I unpicked the hems and have quilted it into a wall hanging. My daughter purchased a William Morris Christmas tree decoration for me from the V&A museum in London when she was there last year and I have attached him to the wallhanging. I have hung it in my sewing room. Thanks again for your super products. As you might have guessed I am a real fan of WM’s designs! I have a couple of rooms  in my house with his wallpapers, and some armchairs and curtains also with his fabrics.”

They look so lovely – we especially love the sleeve details!

Strawberry Thief Red Chair

Annie up cycled this chair by recovering it with Strawberry Thief Red Fabric. It’s such a striking piece, the mahogany wood and gold press studs complimenting the design perfectly.

Trellis Kitchen

Lorraine sent these photos from Devon. She made these pieces to compliment her William Morris Trellis apron. The design looks wonderful in her kitchen – it really suits every space and home. We can see what Morris meant when he said ‘Have nothing in your Houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

🌿 William Morris Day 20 🌿 William Morris fact of the day; did you know he founded the Kelmscott Press? 🖋️ He wrote of the venture – “Here is a new craft to conquer and to perfect.” Printing began at the press in Spring 1891 🪴 He designed multiple fonts including “Golden” Roman typeface and “Troy” Gothic type along with “Chaucer” and he worked to create beautiful books in regards to their designs which took into account their type, image and decorative elements – you can see beautiful examples of what he achieved today if you do a quick search on the Kelmscott Press- it’s well worth a Google! 🌷

🍓 William Morris Month Day 14 🍓 Strawberry Thief was inspired by William Morris’s watching the thrushes under the strawberry nets at the stunning @kelmscottmanor 🌿 May Morris conjured up this scene when speaking of the design, “You can imagine my Father going out in the early morning and watching the rascally thrushes at work on the fruit beds and telling the fanned who growls ‘I’d like to wring their necks!’ that no bird in the garden must be touched. There were certainly more birds than strawberries in spite of attempts at protection. And the walls of the little dining-room are hung with this note of the June garden and the little lords of it.” 🍓 What a lovely insight into the Morris family life! 🥰

✨ William Morris Month Day 11 ✨ A spotlight on Willow Bough today! 🌿 This beautiful botanical design was first designed in 1887, isn’t it so timeless! It actually was the design his daughter May Morris used to decorate her bedroom before it was adapted for wallpaper in 1895 when it was block printed in Merton Abbey 🇬🇧
