William Morris Fabric by the Half Metre

13th September 2023

Our William Morris fabric by the half metre, is often something we get lots of questions on. So, we thought we would use this blog post to go into some detail about our various fabric weights and licensed William Morris designs. Firstly, our designs are all licensed William Morris designs, which we print in the United Kingdom to our own specifications in terms of size and colour. We print on a few different weight fabrics; cotton, heavyweight cotton and a pvc/oilcloth fabric.

A quick note before we get into the different fabric weights and uses; if you’re in the United Kingdom, we offer free samples so you can see the fabrics in your home and see which would be best for your project. Please just get in touch and we’ll get those sent out to you.

Our cotton William Morris fabric by the half metre

Our 100% cotton fabric is 152cm wide (including salve edge) and for length, is sold by the half metre. It’s a brilliant option for dress making, quilting, cushion making, lampshades and so on. Incredibly versatile, we’re always amazed by what our customers create from our cotton fabric.

Our heavyweight cotton William Morris fabric by the half metre

Our heavyweight fabric you can tell apart as you can see the weave of the cotton. This is a great fabric for curtains, light upholstery and so much more. We love this fabric weight for reupholstering stools, chairs, armchairs etc. We’ve upcycled a conservatory sofa and chairs set in our own homes, in beautiful Willow Bough green. It’s incredible what a new textile choice can make to a room! The heavyweight fabric is all 152cm wide including a salve edge.

Our pvc William Morris fabric by the half metre

Pvc fabric is ideal for a busy home’s kitchen table. Often the space that gets the most use, the pvc tablecloth means that it’s incredibly easy to wipe up any spills that occur. The other brilliant thing about the pvc is that it won’t fray, so if you have a sharp pair of scissors and a steady hand (or simply use a template!) then you can create a custom sized tablecloth. The pvc is 140cm wide, and please note that once you cut it, you can no longer return it, so please make sure you’re happy with the fabric before you get cutting!

As with all our fabrics, if you select a longer length on the drop down on the product page, we will send the fabric as a continuous length. Remember, if you’d like a sample to see the how the designs will look in your home, do let us know and we’ll get them sent out to you.

If you’re looking for inspiration for our fabric uses, make sure you look through our inspiration section. If you’re happy to feature on our section, please message us your photos, we’d absolutely love to see them! We think it’s brilliant when we see your tags on Instagram too showing what you’ve made or how you style our kitchen and tablewear, it’s so wonderful seeing our products and fabric in your home!

With so many different designs in stock, including our French floral range, and licensed William Morris designs there’s definitely one that will work for every project and every desired colour. A lot of them go together too if you like a mix of patterns and colours, always so beautiful! We hope you love our William Morris fabrics, we’re always so happy to see how timeless they are and how beautiful they look in everyones homes so long after Morris designed them!
