William Morris Summer Crafts

10th August 2022

There’s no limit of what you can create using our licensed William Morris fabrics. We have different weights of fabric (cotton, heavyweight and pvc) and a wide range of William Morris designs. From curtains and upholstery to quilting and dog bandanas, we’re always trying to think of ideas of what you can create. We love seeing what you make too, so be sure to tag us in your photos!

We’re always trying to keep our ‘inspiration‘ section chock-a-block with new ideas too on what to create, so be sure to take a look there at what our talented customers have crafted. Here’s a few of our William Morris summer crafts.

A William Morris dog bandana

Little Oscar here is often seen rocking a bandana on his collar, so we couldn’t resist crafting him a little Morris one, you can see him here modelling Brother Rabbit blue. We do switch these out according to time of year, in autumn/winter, he’s quite partial to some Mallow!

These are incredibly easy to make.

You’ll need:

  • Fabric of your choice, the amount of fabric will depend on the size of your dog – we made ours for a small to medium size, as you can see on the photo, you can scale that up or down depending on the animal you’re making it for. It’s a great project for using up some left over fabric at the end of a project.
  • A piece of card for your pattern – we’re very professional and used the back of a cereal box.
  • Ruler
  • Cutting board
  • Fabric scissors
  • Sewing machine or sewing kit with thread that matches your fabric

How to:

You first need to work out how big you want your bandana. You don’t want it too big or it could annoy the dog – it’s going to either be down their back or chest so you need to take into account how long they are so it doesn’t get in the way of playtime or walking. The width too will depend on the length of their collar so take that into consideration when cutting out your pattern. You’ll probably want to remove their collar and measure that to make it accurate. We like using our William Morris cotton fabric for this because it’s soft fabric for them.

Then, cut the pattern. We used a cereal box to reduce waste cutting out cardboard for just a few bandanas. You can see that it has the two sides so that the collar would go down the middle.

Then, fold it in half, point to point and top stitch the two triangular sides in. Back stitch to start and finish.

A William Morris Chair

We’re always up cycling our dining chairs. It’s a really quick way to freshen up the room without too much effort or money. It’s also a great way to add a new pop of colour to your kitchen. You can reupholster almost any chair and can even re-use the stuffing within the cushions.

William Morris Upholstery fabric craft

This was our most recent, and most ambitious re – upholstery project. We wrote a whole blog on how we upholstered the sofa and chairs set so you can check that out if you’re interested. We love how up cycling and re-upholstering has become more and more popular, breathing new life into the piece. We love that our fabric can be part of that!

One of the biggest tips when up cycling if you’re replacing something currently there, like we were with this project, carefully unpick it and use it as a template. That way, you can’t go far wrong!

A William Morris Quilt

We’re huge fans of quilting, so it’s a no brainer to use our William Morris fabric to quilt with! We use our cotton fabric to quilt with, there’s lots of designs within our collection that compliment each other to quilt with. We won’t give you advice on how to quilt as Youtube does a far better job of explaining it than we could!

These are a few of our easy Summer crafts with our William Morris fabrics. If you do any crafting, be sure to tag us in your photos!
