Blackwell is an Arts & Crafts House at Bowness -On -Windermere
Designed in 1898 by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott (1865 – 1945)
Blackwell was completed in 1901 for Sir Edward Holt, and used as his holiday home.
Blackwell was the largest commission Baillie Scott had undertaken at this early point in his career.
He was influenced by William Morris and John Ruskin in the Arts & Crafts Style
Before Blackwell his ideas had been produced as watercolours and drawings.
Sir Edward Holt gave Baillie Scott a unique opportunity to put them into a beautiful building.
The White Drawing Room at Blackwell is just wonderful.
Walking through the house to this white room, it is a real contrast from the rest of the house, which is quite dark.
This room it is so light with a wonderful view of Lake Windermere.
Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott designed this beautiful room with flowing columns decorated at the top in the true Arts & Crafts style.
Blackwell is a lovely house to visit.

With this hot weather upon us, if you’re like us and using it to get all your washing out and dry, we thought we’d tell you our washing guidelines! 🫧 We’d recommend folding your fabric face to face when in the wash (so pattern side to pattern side!) to protect the print and then wash at 30 degrees, hang on the line to dry! 🧺 All our fabrics are digitally printed in the UK and products manufactured in the UK 🇬🇧
