On the 26th of April 1859 William Morris married Jane Burden.
William had asked Jane to marry him in February 1858.
The couple were married at St Michael’s Church, Ship Street, Oxford.
William was 25 and on the register was called a bachelor gentleman.
Jane was 20 and recorded in the register as a minor and a spinster.
The bride was given away by her father and both her parents were witnesses.
The groom had no family present at the ceremony, his best man was Faulkner.
William gave Jane a plain gold ring which was hallmarked 1858, Jane gave William a double handled antique silver cup.
On the 27th of April the newly married couple began a six week honeymoon, May Morris is quoted as saying the couple toured France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.
