The wonderful Pre-Raphaelite painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti was born today May 12th in 1828.
Along with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais he founded the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood in 1848.
I have seen a selection of his beautiful paintings on my trips to see many William Morris homes and collections but my person favourite The Seed of David is in Llandaff Cathedral
The models for the figures in the triptych were William Morris, (the head of King David), his wife Jane Burden, (the Virgin Mary). Edward Burne Jones, (the shepherd who reaches for the child’s hand) and Algernon Swinburne, (the king who kneeling is granted only to touch his feet).
