JRR Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, moved to Leeds after his graduation from Exeter College, Oxford. Tolkien became Professor of English Language at Leeds University in 1924 and moved his family to 2 Darnley Road, Leeds.
In 1926, Tolkien was elected to The Rawlinson and Bosworth Chair and he moved his family back to Oxford. JRR Tolkien always acknowledged that one of his greatest literary and artistic influences was William Morris
