This Licensed William Morris Design was first produced in May 1882. It is also known sometimes as Brer Rabbit and was inspired and named after a character in Uncle Remus, His song and Sayings by J.C.Harris (1881) which William Morris would read to his daughters Jenny and May. The design was first produced at Merton Abbey using the Indigo discharge method of printing. The Birds and rabbits within the design were drawn Morris' close friend and colleague, Philip Webb.
