Every William Morris lovers best friend needs one of our beautiful dog bandanas. This Strawberry Thief red bandana adds a pop of colour to your pooch, making them the most stylish of dogs to be the envy of every walk.
Our bandanas are handmade in Yorkshire and slip right onto the dogs collar. Bertie in photos is modelling the Large/ XL size.
Strawberry Thief was first produced in 1883. It marked a triumph for Morris as it was produced as he perfected the indigo-discharge technique of printing at Merton Abbey. We also have Strawberry Thief Blue within our collection.
The design was inspired by William Morris's observation of the thrushes under the strawberry nets at Kelmscott Manor. May Morris conjured up this scene when speaking of the design, "You can imagine my Father going out in the early morning and watching the rascally thrushes at work on the fruit beds and telling the fanned who growls ‘I'd like to wring their necks!' that no bird in the garden must be touched. There were certainly more birds than strawberries in spite of attempts at protection. And the walls of the little dining-room are hung with this note of the June garden and the little lords of it." What a lovely insight into the Morris family life!
Today, we print and manufacture all our products in the United Kingdom. Back when Morris was producing his designs, it was a long process taking three days to prepare. It had to be really accurate.
The Large/ XL size measures: 30cm wide x 24cm The collar width to thread the bandana onto is 6cm
Just like all our designs, our Strawberry Thief dog bandana is printed and manufactured in the United Kingdom. All our William Morris designs are licensed designs, printed both size and colour wise to our own specification to best suit our products.

We’re often asked what the different weights of our fabrics are and what projects they’d be good for. These are our three different types of fabrics in our Brother Rabbit red colourway - cotton on the right, heavyweight in the middle and pvc on the left ✨ As you can see on the second photo, and as the name suggests, our heavyweight fabric has a thicker, heavier weave which makes it good for projects such as curtains and light upholstery 🪡 Our cotton fabric is perfect for quilting and projects such as dress making but honestly the amount of crafts that can be made out of them both are endless! 🫶🏻 Our pvc fabric is great to put straight on the table as it won’t fray so doesn’t need a hem and is easy to maintain as it’s wipe clean! All our fabrics are sold by the half metre and if you’d like a sample of any of our fabrics in any weight just let us know and we’ll get a free sample sent to you! 💌

Perhaps the most famous Morris design, Strawberry Thief was registered in 1883, inspired by Morris watching the thrushes stealing strawberries from under his fruit nets at the beautiful @kelmscottmanor 🍓 It was printed using the indigo dye technique, which was labour intensive and first attempted in 1875 but not perfected for 8 years 🎨 We also print Strawberry Thief in a beautiful red 🫶🏻
