This dress is on display at the Barley Hall, York. It is the dress worn by the lovely Nicole Kidman in The Portrait of a Lady. Heale House, Middle Woodford, Wiltshire, is used in the film to represent the interiors of Pratt’s Club, London.
Heale House was greatly enlarged and improved in the Arts and Crafts manner by architect Detmar Blow in 1910. Blow was personally mentored by John Ruskin and Blow was also a follower of William Holman Hunt, and Philip Webb (the business associate and friend of William Morris and the architect of Morris’s Red House).
