Upcycling with William Morris Fabric

1st June 2020

We absolutely love an upcycling project – sustainable and it often gives pieces that are well made a new lease of life. Sometimes antique chairs for example, just need a recover or a repaint to update them. The craftsmanship that goes into furniture wants to be restored to former glory. We want  them looking more shabby than chic! We thought you might like to see some upcycles that people have crafted using our William Morris fabric!

A Strawberry Thief Tea Chest

Jo sent us these photos of her lovely upcycled tea chest. By recovering the top with a pop of colour with Strawberry Thief, it really adds an amazing pop of colour!

A Brother Rabbit Footstool

An upcycle doesn’t have to be an entire project – this beautiful ottoman by @ivylodgeni (post on how she made it here) was made using legs from an old footstool she found in a second hand shop. So a craft/upcycle mix! We couldn’t love this more.

Golden Lily Chairs

This photo shows what a difference upcycling can do even on modern pieces! With a quick change of fabric, it looks so different and amazing. Sometimes, when you’re in antique or second hand shops, if you like the bones of the chair but not the fabric, you could consider a quick craft project to upcycle. All you need for this is your favourite William Morris fabric and a staple gun!

A William Morris Roberts Radio

We love this Roberts radio that’s been recovered with William Morris – it works so well on this project and shows the versatility of the fabric. Gaynor sent us these lovely photos along with this message, ”I love your William Morris fabric and would welcome an opportunity to purchase more so here are before and after pictures of my Roberts radio. I actually got the idea from your website so thank you for the inspiration. I used the heavier weight fabric which worked a treat.”

Pimpernel chairs upcycle

We absolutely love these recovered chairs. Just by recovering the chairs, they’ve been brought back to life, which is a real bonus because the style of chair is so wonderful, it’d be a shame for them to have just been chucked out instead of revived! We’ve even seen people paint the legs of the chair to make it even more different!

We hope you like our ideas of upcycling projects! Have you used our William Morris fabric to upcycle any of your pieces? We’d love to see! If you send your photos to: [email protected] we will send you a 20% discount code off your next order. If you do send us photos, we’ll might use them on our social/blog so we hope that’s okay with you when you send them!
