Strawberry Thief is another of our licensed William Morris design that was first produced in 1883. It marked a triumph for Morris as it was produced as he perfected the indigo-discharge technique of printing at Merton Abbey. We also have Strawberry Thief Red within our collection.
The design was inspired by William Morris’s observation of the thrushes under the strawberry nets at his home, Kelmscott Manor.
Our heavyweight fabric is suitable for many different projects, it's a heavier weave than the 100% cotton fabric, and suitable for projects such as curtains and light upholstery.
The 100% cotton heavyweight fabric is printed in the United Kingdom, just like all our cloth.
The fabric is 152cm wide. Strawberry Thief has a pattern repeat of 24cm. For the fabric length, it's sold by the half metre, so you can choose your length using the drop down above. If you order more than 0.5m in the same order, it will be sent as a continuous length.
We use high quality cotton fabric which is printed in the United Kingdom. Our printer is a long-established British printer. If you would like a closer look at any of our fabrics, you can get in touch and we’ll be happy to send you a free sample if you’re within the UK. Every single one of our William Morris designs are licensed Morris designs. We print and manufacture all of our William Morris designs to our own specifications in terms of both size and colour to best suit our products. We can keep our fabric cheaper than competitors by printing within the UK and reducing transport costs, we are exclusively an online retailer and therefore we don’t need to pay for flashy showrooms! Did you know that in Japan where our projects are sold, our tea towels are used not only for being functional but for decoration - we love that they’re framed, or laid on the table as a centrepiece to be admired or hung as a draped item to bring some nature indoors 🌿 we thought we’d do the same by using the tea towel as a centrepiece for a simple cup of tea and very delicious piece of cake! 🍰
