In July 1855, William Morris was in Paris, France with Edward Burne Jones and William Fulford. They visited Notre Dame Cathedral and noted how it was in a state of disrepair; parts of the stonework of the building were scattered around and laid in the porch.
When I visited the Cathedral it looked beautiful.
