In front of Cardiff Castle is the Animal Wall, a wonderful stone wall with carved animals climbing over it. William Burgess designed the wall but died before construction was begun. Burgess’ former assistant, William Frame, took over the project and oversaw the building of the wall. The original nine animals designed by William Burgess and sculpted by Thomas Nicholls have glass eyes and were originally painted. In 1931 six more animals were added.
